Renovo Area Outreach

Image
Pennsylvania has one of the highest overdose death rates in the country. Renovo, the once quiet, sheltered rural town has also felt the crunch. Renovo is hardly the town it used to be with Opioids, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl, running rapidly, falling into children’s hands.  In recent months, the town has relied heavily on local volunteer fire departments and ambulance crews to assist them in emergency situations. These incidents have placed volunteer rescue workers’ lives in jeopardy, reinforcing that a community cannot rely on volunteers alone, police protection is a necessity. Between the increasing drug presence, violence and lack of police protection Renovo is a breeding ground for destruction leaving many residents wondering about the town’s future. A group of concerned citizens who calls themselves Renovo Area Outreach has come together to create a solution to the ongoing drug crisis in Renovo. The prevention group plans to utilize the community’s resources to keep drugs out

Two Grandmothers Take Down a Billion Dollar Power Plant

Image
You've got to be shitting me. Two grandmothers take down a billion-dollar power plant!! Laughing my ass off. Literally!! Maybe the proposed power plant wasn't what it seemed. Maybe Grandmother Maureen Ruhl knew what she was talking about when she said they needed to sell the land to pay back angry investors. Maybe she knew exactly how bad it was going to be for the residents of Renovo and how Renovo would not benefit from it.  If you have an ounce of sense in your head maybe the people in Renovo should sit down and stop talking and listen to what this woman has to say. You go, Grandma!!!!  - Chapman Girl  RENOVO, PA – Maureen Ruhl and Sue Cannon, two outspoken opponents of the now defunct Renovo Energy Center project have applauded the decision by project backers to end planning for the billion-dollar natural gas-to electricity plant proposed for the borough’s northside. Clean Air Council and other project opponents have praised word on the Bechtol Corporation decision to end i

Finally a Step Forward

Donna Kshir (left) and Lee Cougardawn Roberts   The biggest injustice anyone could do is not support a law that protects children!  These t wo women have been fighting for a law that would require the State Police to open the current private computerized database of individuals convicted of child abuse in the state. It's been 8 years. Say that again. 8 years!!!! Any lawmaker who has met with them and refused to show their support should hang their head in shame. Isn't it YOUR job to protect children? Did you forget the oath you took when you were sworn into office?! Like everything else, you missed the mark!  - Chapman Girl Update: On April 5, Donna M. Kshir and Lee Cougardawn Roberts sat down with Republican State Representative Stephanie Borowicz to see if they could gain her support and sponsorship of legislation. This time around, Borowicz offered support and suggested the duo meet with Republican Senator Cris Dush. Borowicz offered to sit in on that meeting.  The biggest

Refusing to Protect Children

Image
Over the last two years, I have quietly sat back and watched Donna Kshir and Lee ‘Cougardawn’ Roberts fight to open the Pennsylvania central registry. The two grandmothers started campaigning to open the child abuse central registry after 2-year-old Conner Bachuss lost his life to child abuse. The Kentucky toddler’s killer, Ronald Saunders II, had a very violent past dating back to his time in the military, but his past was hidden on the private registry. The two have been documenting their journey on a video blog,  The Road to the Registry , and a podcast,  The Daily with Donna Kshir. I will say Kshir appears more laid back in the podcast. Although she remains confident, she is quite different than her early days in broadcasting. Back in her Dreamcatcher days, she would say the unthinkable to grab your attention to shine light on her cause. It’s safe to say, she offended many people along the way, but it served her agenda well.  Conner’s Law — Kentucky  got passed and Dreamcatchers we

Broken Promises of a Power Plant

Image
Image courtesy of The Clinton County Record Author and activist Maureen Ruhl has been taking on Bechtel Energy, the Clinton County Economic Partnership, the Clinton County Commissioners, Stephanie Borowicz, and others in her fight to stop a power plant from being dropped in the center of a town of fewer than 1,000 people. Many promises have been made of a better tomorrow but at what cost? It's funny these same people involved passed on the opportunity to be placed in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania where they all reside, but it's okay to shove it down their rivals' throats. Not good enough for Lock Haven, but good enough for Renovo. That sounds about right, but why is no one listening to the facts? Why is this town so ready to sabotage itself to benefit others? Listen to one man's testimony of what living next to a power plant is really like! NOTE: I have been having issues uploading the video but you can watch it HERE!! Post by: Chapman Girl

Head in the Sand

Image courtesy of Pinterest Along the beautiful scenic Susquehanna River in Renovo Pennsylvania, the fight continues to stop the Bechtel Corporation and their plans to construct a new $1.5 billion gas-powered plant in the center of town, resulting in each home in the tiny community to be less than one football field away from the polluting facility. Thanks to a small group of activists voicing their concerns, the Clinton County Commissioners and the Bechtel Corporation are more than happy to give a dog a bone. In this case, Renovo is the dog. Renovo will receive a one-time payment to be divided among the borough and several organizations in the community. Although the Clinton County Commissioners turned down the gas-powered plant for the Lock Haven area, where they are based, the commissioners have Renovo Borough Council believing it will create hundreds of jobs and thousands of dollars in annual tax revenue which is not the case. One thing Renovo is guaranteed to receive is Renovo Ene

Only in Renovo

Image
Over the last few days, images and expressions of hate have arisen in the small community of Renovo, Pennsylvania. The images are graphic and contain racial slurs, weapons, and threats. Only a few people will speak openly about it because the alleged minor child is related to a well-connected family in the community, but because of the child’s last name and family’s ties to the community many people in the tiny town are remaining silent out of fear and intimidation of being singled out like the families on 14th Street who were deemed homeless after a several year fight with Renovo Borough Council. Why is no one asking the tough questions? Why does this child feel hate toward others? Why is the child making threats? How does this minor child have access to weapons that should be kept under lock and key? Why did it take several days for the school to issue a statement? Why wasn’t it covered in the media? Why? Why is no one asking? I just don’t understand why no one is concerned about how
